Department of Yoga

Yogic practices were started in the institution from its inception along with the traditional physical activities. Summer yoga camp is a regular feature of the mandal since 1977 at chikhaldara(Hill station) in the region of Melghat Amravati.

Summer yoga camp were organised in the supervision of late Acharya Trayambak Guruji Joshi and Dr. A.N. Khodalskar, Supported by Dr. Suryakant D. Patil. Degree college of physical Education has started Diploma in yoga Education one year course for the first time in Maharashtra in the year 1982.Later on in 1989 activity of Naturopathy was added to yoga and being a regular feature of summer camps. Post Graduate Diploma in Yoga Therapy(PGDYT) course of 2 years duration in proposed by U.G.C. and approved by SGB Amravati University was started in the year 2006. This Course comes under Innovative program of interdisciplinary research in emerging areas. UGC has granted Rs 30 Lakhs financial assistance to the college for development of Laboratory.

In the year 2008 M.A. (Yogashtra) two year duation course was first time introduced in the college and in 2011 B.A. (Yogashtra) three year duration course affiliated to SGB Amravati university, Amravati.

Objectives of the Department

  1. To impart the students, latest comprehensive and skill based knowledge with equal emphasis on theory and practice in the field of Yoga and optional subjects opted.
  2. To promote the awareness of positive health, personality development and psycho-spiritual evolution.
  3. To provide students with sound academic base from which an advanced career in Yoga can be developed.
  4. To prepare students to undertake higher studies in Yoga and opted subjects.
  5. To prepare graduates who will contribute to society as broadly educated, expressive, ethical and responsible citizens with proven expertise.
  6. To prepare professionals in Yogashastra who can effectively teach at School level.
  7. To train individuals to work as Yoga Teachers .
  8. To prepare the students in Yoga Science to pursue for higher aspects of Yoga at the post graduate level and Yoga Research.
